WHAT IS BIRD FRIENDLY GLASS?
Bird Friendly glass is a type of glass that incorporates some form of visual aid to assist birds in seeing the glass before a strike can occur. Bird populations are extremely important and account for an overall balanced eco-system for agriculture and human interactions.
Many regional jurisdictions focus on the need for Bird Friendly glass with some even mandating its use. Further, Bird Friendly glass will continue to be integrated into building codes as glass solutions and the understanding of Bird Friendly products becomes ubiquitous. There are MANY variants to take into consideration to fabricate a product perfectly suited for your application.

THERE ARE TWO DISTINCT BIRD-FRIENDLY OPTIONS
CERAMIC PRINTED FRIT
Ceramic printed frit is the process of using high quality, digital ceramic printer(s) to apply marks to the glass surface. The marks themselves can be on either first or second surface of an IGU, and will last a lifetime. AGNORA’s in-house Dip-Tech ceramic printer allows for the creation of endless options. A couple of unique benefits:
- Printed frit can be any design, allowing for a custom or branded solution to your liking.
- Printed frit allows for use of glass up to 130″ x 275″ maximum size. A true oversized glass option.
- The most cost-effective and robust solution
- Digital printing by AGNORA conforms to American Bird Conservancy standards, but is not accredited
UV COATING
Provided by the manufacturer, such as Guardian Glass Bird1st (accredited by the American Bird Conservancy), this type of glass provides a pattern only visible to birds, and remains invisible to the human eye. These units are a fantastic look for any location looking to deter bird strikes while maintaining a clear view. Special considerations must be made when using this glass such as the maximum size of 102” x 144″ and increased overall cost.

Use Printed Frit
Is the size of the IGU below 144″ in any dimension?
- UV Coated Glass is sized at 102” x 144”. The 144” needs to be used in the vertical orientation.
- Printed Frit can be used up to a dimension of 130” x 275” in any orientation.
LOOK
Does the customer prefer an invisible solution or visible dot patterns, or branded patterns?
- Printed Frit for visible.
- UV Coating for invisible.
