Technical Article • AGNORA
As the architectural glass industry continues to evolve toward higher-performance glazing solutions, Guardian Glass has announced the discontinuation of SunGuard™ SNX 62/27 in AGNORA’s previously stocked thicknesses of 6mm and 10mm. Moving forward, AGNORA’s Guardian coating portfolio will focus on three proven products available in both 6 mm and 10 mm thicknesses for double- and triple-silver coatings: SunGuard™ SN68, SunGuard™ SNX 60+, and SunGuard™ SNX 70+.
This transition reflects advancements in coating technology, increasingly stringent energy-performance requirements, and growing demand for glazing solutions that deliver superior solar control while maintaining exceptional aesthetics. For many projects that previously specified SNX 62/27, SNX 60+ will be the natural replacement.
Why Is SNX 62/27 Being Discontinued?
Guardian is streamlining its coating portfolio to focus on products that offer greater performance, flexibility, and alignment with modern building standards. While SNX 62/27 has been a popular choice for years, newer triple-silver coating technologies now provide stronger solar control while maintaining a highly neutral aesthetic.
For AGNORA customers, SNX 62/27 in 6 mm and 10 mm thicknesses will only be available for limited made-to-order warranty replacement runs. New projects should transition to one of AGNORA’s stocked Guardian alternatives.
Meet the Guardian Lineup at AGNORA
SunGuard™ SN68: The Daylighting Solution
SN 68 remains the preferred choice when maximizing natural daylight is the primary design objective. With visible light transmission (VLT) between 67% and 69%, it creates bright interiors while maintaining the neutral appearance architects have specified for years.
While SN 68 does not provide the same level of solar control as Guardian’s latest triple-silver coatings, it remains an excellent option for projects where daylighting and visual openness are top priorities.
Best for:
- Daylight-focused commercial spaces
- Large curtain wall applications
- Educational facilities
- Projects seeking a neutral architectural appearance
SunGuard™ SNX 60+: The Performance Upgrade
SNX 60+ is the performance-focused upgrade within the Guardian portfolio and the natural replacement for former SNX 62/27 applications. It delivers comparable daylight levels while providing significantly stronger solar control, reduced heat gain, and exceptional colour neutrality.
With visible light transmission ranging from 60% to 62% and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of approximately 0.24, SNX 60+ achieves the highest light-to-solar-gain ratio in Guardian’s North American triple-silver lineup.
This makes it an excellent solution for projects targeting improved energy performance and occupant comfort. In addition, SNX 60+ is approved for embedded laminate applications, giving architects and fabricators greater design flexibility.
Best for:
- Commercial office buildings
- Healthcare facilities
- Educational institutions
- High-performance residential projects
- Buildings pursuing energy-efficiency targets and green-building certifications
SunGuard™ SNX 70+: The Aesthetic Upgrade
For projects where visual quality is paramount, SNX 70+ offers a compelling combination of daylight transmission, aesthetics, and solar performance. With VLT between 67% and 68% and an SHGC of approximately 0.27, it combines the daylight levels associated with SN 68 with much stronger solar performance.
SNX 70+ is distinguished by its exceptional clarity, low reflectivity, and consistent colour appearance from multiple viewing angles. For customers who appreciate the look of SNX 60+ but seek greater transparency and visual quality, SNX 70+ is often the ideal choice.
Best for:
- Signature architectural projects
- Premium commercial developments
- High-end residential applications
- Design-driven façades where appearance is as important as performance

Key Considerations When Transitioning from SNX 62/27
To simplify product selection while supporting the majority of architectural glazing applications, AGNORA will stock SN68, SNX 60+, and SNX 70+ in both Collingwood and Cerritos. This streamlined offering makes it easier for designers, glaziers, and building owners to select the right balance of daylighting, solar control, and aesthetics for their projects.
Looking Ahead
The retirement of SNX 62/27 marks an important step in the evolution of high-performance architectural glass. For most former SNX 62/27 applications, SNX 60+ represents a performance-driven advancement that delivers stronger solar control and aesthetic improvements.
Meanwhile, SNX 70+ offers an exciting option for projects seeking superior transparency while maintaining a high level of solar control. Whether your priority is daylight, performance, or architectural beauty, AGNORA’s Guardian lineup provides a clear path forward.
